SAMSUNG CSC

I received a Masters Degree in Social Work from Hunter College School of Social Work in New York City, and completed analytic training at Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Study Center, also in New York. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Certified Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist. I am trained as an EMDR practitioner and am in the process of becoming certified in this modality.

Eight years’ experience at Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC) as a supervisor and then coordinator of the counseling services on the HIV-Hotline, and 19 years as staff therapist and clinical supervisor at Callen-Lorde Community Health Center have given me a broad range of experience working with the mental health and emotional needs in the LGBTQI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex) GNB, Kink, Polyamorous and HIV communities. I am qualified to assist with a range of issues, including depression, anxiety, grief and mourning, coming out, transitioning, intimacy issues, low self-esteem, and alcohol and substance use.

As a former modern dancer, I can help address issues encountered by performing artists and artists who are transitioning to a new career path. Focusing on increasing confidence and creativity is important, no matter where you are in your career trajectory.

I also have extensive experience supporting people in recovery who are working within the 12-Step Program to maintain their sobriety. I am equally equipped to work within a Harm Reduction model for clients wanting to examine and understand their alcohol or substance use, or use of sex and other activities in order to modify or reduce their impact but not stop altogether.

Having grown up in a faith tradition, I understand the struggles people may face when they decide they must be their genuine self, and come out as LGBTQI. I support people in being integrated into their faith traditions, in finding/creating new forms of spirituality and community, or in being as removed from it as they need to be in order to grow and love themselves fully.
